Margaret Helen Weak (Peggy) Obituary
Moorpark, California - Margaret Helen "Peggy" (Simpson) Weak
It is with heavy hearts that Patrick and Brendan Weak announce the passing of their mother, Margaret Helen (Simpson) Weak, known to all as "Peggy." Peggy passed away peacefully at her home in Moorpark, CA, on August 19, 2025, aged 79.
Peggy was born on March 17, 1946, to Jane (Perry) and John Simpson in Inglewood, CA. She graduated from Morningside High School in 1964. She studied at El Camino College before earning a B.A. in Education from San Jose State University.
After college, Peggy returned to Southern California to begin what became a 30-year career as an elementary school teacher. She first taught at Washington Elementary in Lynwood, CA. In 1979, she stepped away from the classroom to pursue her dream of starting a family. Peggy and her husband, James "Jim" Weak, moved to Moorpark in 1981 with their sons.
Alongside motherhood, Peggy gave back to her community through free tutoring for underperforming students and by supporting her husband's political career in Moorpark. When Jim was diagnosed with an aggressive form of leukemia in 1986, Peggy devoted herself to his care until his death. Widowed with two young boys, she returned to teaching full-time to support them.
Over the next 25 years, Peggy taught at Peach Hill and Walnut Canyon Elementary Schools in Moorpark. There she found colleagues who became lifelong friends, and students and families who embraced her. A passionate reader and educator, Peggy spearheaded the Peach Hill Posse reading program, which inspired students to read over a million minutes annually and sparked a love of reading.
Outside of teaching, Peggy enjoyed gardening, crafting, and time with family. She embodied the true spirit of a teacher and mother—leading with compassion, empathy, and principle, while remaining steadfast in her belief in standing for what is right. Peggy left an indelible mark on all who knew her, and we are grateful to call her our friend, colleague, and mother.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Jim, her parents John and Jane Simpson, and her sister Linda (Simpson) Liken. Peggy is survived by her brother Don Simpson; her sons Patrick and Brendan; daughter-in-law Lindsey; and her grandchildren Quinn, Harrison, and Emmy. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and countless others who knew her as a second "Mom."
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 12, 2025, at Pierce Brothers Valley Oaks-Griffin Memorial Park in Westlake Village. A reception will follow at the Weak residence in Moorpark.
